10/11/21: RSGS talk by Nina Laurie- Amazonian Journeys
Join the RSGS online on 10th November 2021 at 7.30pm for a talk by Professor Nina Laurie.
Nina tells the story of two journeys along the Chambira River in Loreto, Peru. The first tracks a visit made by researchers in 2019 to make links with the Urarina people who hunt, fish and harvest forest products from tropical peatlands. The second was made nearly two years later, in the opposite direction and all the way to Lima, by members of the Urarina community, leaving their Amazonian territory for the first time ever to sell their textiles. Both journeys highlight the role of cultural heritage in building more sustainable futures.
Tickets are FREE for RSGS Members, U18s and Students, or £6 for visitors. Book your place here.
